4Pretty good but there is a hidden cost
By Ted Kurkowski
I use this roaster to slow-cook large chuck roasts for large batches of soup. It does this well but there are a couple of design issues with it, and a hidden cost.

Design issues:
1. The power cord comes out of the right side near the FRONT of the unit. So the cord has to snake around the very hot roaster to reach a power receptacle at the back of a kitchen counter-top. This is a dumb idea - the power cord should exit at the rear of the unit like normal well-designed counter-top appliances.
2. The handle for lifting the lid is in the center of the lid. The first time you lift the lid when the unit is at operating temperature, hot air and/or steam will rise up around your arm. You will only do this once, and then develop the habit of reaching around the side to the rear of the unit to pull the the lid up.

Hidden cost:
The standard porcelain cookwell is difficult to clean after food has baked or boiled onto it for a long time. Pla n on spending $20 for the nonstick cookwell Nesco sells as an option. It's worth it.

I haven't used the convection feature so I can't comment on that. Be sure to follow the directions to condition the unit by heating it up until it finishes out-gassing. (Kudos to Nesco for recognizing this need and including it in the instructions.)

I have used this oven a lot and it does work well. However, it could use some design improvements.

5Size is great
By John F Layton
I like the size and the multi functions. I can cook a whole ham or a large roast with no problems.
